As Michel Illouz slowly made his way through the crowds beneath the Mediterranean pines and date palms at the graveyard in Ra'anana, a city located 13 miles north of Tel Aviv, he thanked people to countless visitors as feasible.

Previously he offered an welcoming message to the local community to accompany his loved ones in honoring the memory of his young adult son, Guy, whose body had been returned from Gaza on Monday.

He spoke to his son. "Beloved Guy," he uttered, using a loving expression, "it's difficult for me to conceive the future without you. They took you from me – they murdered you – they captured my essence and took my sense of self and murdered my soul and feelings."

"There's a void within me since that pointless violence by those vicious attackers when they caught you and told you to turn around, and then merely shot two needless bullets into your posterior."

Ultimate Parting

"So I found myself this morning, heading toward Abu Kabir medical examiner's office to identify you and say goodbye. They took off the covering, and the primary view I observed was that smile of yours, that optimism, that calm demeanor and nobility that so characterized you."

"I touched you, tried to smell you, tenderly touched all areas in your body. I saw you, I was in private with you, and yes, I felt with total assurance that it was you. Yes, I know, Guy-shuk, that you've rejoined our family. You've come back to your relatives' care, to all your companions, and to the numerous individuals whose hearts your story affected."

Parental Resilience

During the early part of the memorial, Illouz had focused entirely on consoling his younger children. He gently touched the locks of his daughters, held his son, demonstrated love and maintained composure for them. But then his voice broke.

Cherished Memories

"I will long for so much journeying together through this country, experiencing your company, listening to your compositions, resting on elevated terrain and lighting the burner to create the drink the way only you knew how – 'Father, do you see the coffee bubbles? You have to boil it gently, let the bubbles form, then heat it once more. Agitate the liquid with rotating movements' – and then your smile while tasting the beverage and your delight in every single drop."

"Earlier than my exit Abu Kabir today, I fulfilled my commitment. I gazed upon you, breathed you in one final moment, and yes, I bestowed affection on the forehead. I was managed to observe your beauty even in the condition in which you came back."
