This Swine Life: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
While perhaps not at the identical stature as sparing holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the sheer volume of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life free from concern.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, donated by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.
A New Life
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Annually, we are proud to celebrate heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and Cuban coffee as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
