The Showrunner Shares He Has an Idea of How The Apple TV+ Show Will Conclude... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that his new science-fiction series would become a breakout success. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I did not foresee the show being as passionately debated as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

With the first season of the acclaimed series reaching its finale—and Season 2 greenlit and underway—the creative team recently discussed the audience reaction and whether it will shape the storyline of Pluribus.

Regarding the Overwhelming Audience Reaction

It would be easy to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates regarding Pluribus. The creator is striving to avoid both.

“It feels like force fed hot fudge sundaes and being in a state of bliss,” he says. “It's the greatest thing, but I hear about it from others, and that's by design. Never in my life looked myself up on the internet, nor do I ever want to. It's not a lack of interest. It's a bottomless pit I know I would disappear down and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

Despite Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s no way to avoid the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The only approach for the writers is to take it in stride and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says co-executive producer Alison Tatlock. “Our storytelling is not influenced by what people are saying.”

“We prefer to keep our noses to the grindstone,” Gilligan adds.

The Central Mystery: Does the creator See the Finale of Pluribus?

So if the creative staff are not listening by fan response, can we assume they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? Essentially yes… in a way.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about how the story could conclude,” he states. “yet we stand ready to abandon a good idea for a better idea. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, executive producer Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to fall back on.

“My recurring proposal is that it's all in a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” Smith quips, “but no one is buying it.”

Then again, why mess with the legendary finales?

“I want Carol to wake up in bed with Bob Newhart there,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is currently available on the streaming service.
