Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Humiliation
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was understandable for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the club's worst run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a tough night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant support from above,” Slot remarked.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
When asked to provide details on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and for me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He further stated, “During our regular conversations we have I perceive the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this match yet so let’s see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot lamented known weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to everyone,” Jones stated.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don't have to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool for years.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with results so bad.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our chest. And until that badge is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to its rightful place, show everyone again what this club is about and the reason it's called the top club in the planet.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
