New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Optimistic Kris Boyd Will Make a Full Recovery After New York City Incident

New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn revealed that he recently spoke with cornerback Kris Boyd and believes the player will be OK after being shot in central New York early Sunday morning.

Glenn noted that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their latest talk.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s in good spirits,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and his kid, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

The coach did not know when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he is reported as in critical but steady condition.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “However, I can share, hearing him speak, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he expresses himself so positively.”

Authorities shared video stills earlier this week of a suspect in the attack on the player. A motive for the shooting is currently under review and officials stated it remains uncertain if Boyd was the intended victim. There were no additional victims according to reports.

The shooting happened in the early morning on Sunday morning near MSG and the iconic square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was admitted to a medical center after being shot in the abdomen, according to authorities. The shooter fled the scene.

Glenn shared Boyd has been in his thoughts “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. He further stated that Boyd and his spouse are new parents to a baby.

“The first thing I thought about, he recently became a father,” Glenn remarked. “I thought of his spouse, considering his child and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, which I won’t get into, but It is reassuring that his outcome looks very positive.”

Boyd was inactive this season, his debut year with New York, after his season was cut short due to injury on August 18 with a shoulder issue that involved surgical repair.

He joined the Jets as a new signing in March and was projected as an important component of a revamped special teams unit under the coach and special teams coordinator Chris Banjo. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and was carted from the field.

Boyd has remained around the team all season long while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn stated. “In fact, he attends every game. He’s fully engaged. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he has excelled at supporting his teammates.”

Boyd, hailing from the Lone Star State, played his first four seasons with Minnesota after getting drafted in the seventh round by Minnesota out of UT in 2019. He signed with Arizona in 2023 and later was with the Texans later that season. Boyd signed a one-year contract worth $1.6m with New York in March.
