Lautaro Martínez Double Keeps Inter Milan in Pursuit of Frontrunners
Inter striker Lautaro Martínez netted a second-half double to secure his side a 2-0 win at Pisa, keeping the away side firmly involved in the Serie A championship battle despite a less than convincing display.
Standings Update
Led by manager Cristian Chivu, Inter now are placed in third position in the table with 27 points, level with second-placed Roma and only one point behind leaders Milan. In contrast, Pisa occupy the third bottom spot with 10 points.
Game Recap
Inter arrived in Tuscany looking to get back on track after suffering a loss to rivals by Milan recently, followed by a European defeat at Atlético Madrid. However, they were made to battle all the way by newly-promoted Pisa. The hosts created plenty of chances, but a clinical Inter broke the deadlock in the 69th minute when Argentinian Martínez smacked a one-time shot into the roof of the net. The forward then tapped in from point-blank seven minutes from time.
The team’s capacity to convert despite pressure proved crucial in earning three points.
