People have come together throughout the country to remember two years since the Hamas-initiated attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions continued in the neighboring country over a conclusion to the war in Gaza.

The incident resulted in over 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the uniquely most fatal day for Jews since the World War II.

Israel reacted by launching a defensive operation in Gaza which has taken in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its numbers are regarded as reliable by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"Our bloodthirsty opponents have struck forcefully, but they have not broken us," the prime minister stated on that day.

He also promised to "accomplish all the goals of the war: the return of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas regime and the assurance that Gaza will no longer create a risk to Israel".

Commemorative Events Across Israel

The government authorities postponed official memorials until mid-October - after the conclusion of the religious holiday season - but ceremonies still were held around the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of people who lost their lives in the Hamas incident was organized in the coastal city. Put together by the victims' relatives, it was televised across Israeli TV networks.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Ceasefire Meetings in Egypt

Simultaneously, Israeli and Hamas delegations met in the Egyptian tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a second day of indirect talks to discuss the conditions of the proposal.

A senior Palestinian official knowledgeable about the negotiations said that an evening round of mediated discussions commenced at 19:00 Cairo time.

The source said the day's discussions ended without significant progress, amid disagreements over the suggested Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over guarantees Hamas wants to guarantee Israel does not recommence combat after the first phase of the deal.

He noted that the negotiations are "tough and have still not deliver any real breakthrough," but noted that mediators are making efforts to narrow the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Key Matters in Negotiations

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The swap of the prisoners still detained by Hamas for inmates from Gaza
  • The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for relief supplies deliveries
  • After-conflict governance of the region

Public Sentiment

In the city's public square previously, 29-year-old Hagar - whose family member survived the assault on the outdoor event, where many attendees were lost their lives and many more were abducted by Hamas gunmen - told: "No place appears as home anymore and until all the hostages return none of us will be secure."

"After we see everybody home again, we can feel relief anew. Then we can commence rebuild," she added.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in the capital, people assembled to show their solidarity for the relatives of the hostages. Israel states 48 remain in captivity in Gaza, approximately twenty of whom are considered to be living.

Demonstrator Atalia Regev explained: "We need do whatever arrangement necessary for the captives to return. But we truly desire promises that we will be safe."

Surveys now frequently demonstrate that about seventy percent of Israelis desire the hostilities to end in return for the release of the captives.

Palestinian Conditions

At the area of Nova festival, grieving people came together to honor the dead.

From the site, the sound of military attacks and artillery could be heard just a few kilometres away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the heavy Israeli attacks persisted.

In the urban center, attacks were noted in the morning of Tuesday in the west side district, sector and locality districts and in the east side neighbourhood of the community, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"When the night falls, the fear appears with it," displaced urban resident a local woman, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are fearful of the attacks. All the night we are lying together, clinging, notably my youngest child who puts his head on me throughout the night."

"Continuously we monitor the updates to see developments. And I'm afraid that this truce will not be completed and that the war will return to us."

Medical Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City reported it had accepted the remains of half dozen people by the afternoon, including three who lost their lives in an Israeli attack in the southern area.

A different healthcare center in the south region of Khan Younis said another two dead people had been brought there. An individual was killed by Israeli forces while seeking help to the southern area, medics reported.

The region's health ministry reported 25 of the {territ
