Former Doctor Faces Sexual Assault Charges Involving 38 Individuals in His Care

Prosecutors report that a ex- physician stands accused of carrying out sexual assaults involving 38 victims who were patients.

Details of the Grave Allegations

The accused, Nathaniel Spencer from Birmingham is accused of numerous acts of sexual assault – including some against children younger than 13 – spanning the period from 2017 and 2021.

One senior CPS official said, “Legal teams have worked at length to assist a thorough and intricate investigation, meticulously examining the available evidence to determine that there is a strong case to proceed to trial and that it is in the interest of justice.”

The Police Inquiry

The charges follow what police called a “complex investigation” into reported assaults at medical facilities: the Royal Stoke university hospital and Russells Hall hospital.

The defendant will appear at the North Staffordshire justice centre on 20 January.

Breakdown of Charges

The charging documents said the forty-five sexual offences he is charged with:

  • Fifteen counts of sexual assault.
  • 17 counts of assault by penetration.
  • Nine counts of sexual assault of a child under 13.
  • Three counts of assault of a child under 13 by penetration.
  • One count of attempting to assault by penetration.
