Democrats Denounce Trump After He Suggests They Should Face Execution

Democratic officials expressed outrage after former President Donald Trump alleged a coalition of Democratic representatives of being "turncoats" and declared they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their publication of a controversial video.

The Recording That Provoked the Controversy

The clip, published on earlier this week, showcases six Democratic congress members who in the past served in military or security roles.

"Similar to us, you all took an vow to safeguard and uphold this constitution," the lawmakers stated in the brief video. "At present, the risks to our democratic foundation don't only come from abroad, but from right here at home. Our laws are unambiguous, you can refuse improper directives, you can refuse illegal orders, you should reject illegal orders. No one has to follow commands that contravene the law or our founding principles."

The Former President's Incensed Response

The clip seemed to trigger a angry reaction from the previous commander-in-chief.

On later in the week, Trump wrote on his social media platform: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In another publication, he wrote: "This represents really bad, and Risky to our Nation. Their comments cannot be permitted to stand. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third message, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, subject to punishment by DEATH!" He also redistributed a declaration that stated: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Opposition Officials React

Following Trump's statements on Thursday, Top Democrats released a unified statement denouncing the statements.

"Partisan aggression has no position in this nation," they declared. "Representatives who participated in the video all worked our country with tremendous loyalty and distinction. We strongly condemn Donald Trump's offensive and risky calls for execution against members of Congress, and appeal to GOP representatives to vigorously do the same."

The party representatives also said that they had been in communication with security officials "to ensure the security of these members and their loved ones."

"Donald Trump must without delay take down these extreme social media posts and withdraw his aggressive rhetoric before he gets someone killed," the declaration stated.

Officials' Defiant Response

The lawmakers who participated in the video also released a statement.

"We serve as veterans and security experts who value this nation and swore an vow to defend and uphold the founding document of the United States," they said. "That oath is permanent, and we intend to keep it. No threat, coercion, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that sacred duty."

"The significant point is that the former president deems it punishable by death for us to reiterate the legal requirements," they added. "Our service members should understand that we have their backs as they fulfill their vow to the founding principles and duty to obey only lawful orders. It is not only the proper thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They added: "Every American must join forces and denounce the former president's calls for our murder and political violence. This is a period for moral clarity."

Further Political Reactions

The Senate Democratic leader also condemned Trump's remarks and shared on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the President of the United States is demanding the execution of government members."

He stated: "This represents an direct THREAT. All senators, all representatives, every American – irrespective of political affiliation – should censure this immediately and without qualification."

The Conservative official defended Trump's claim that the Democrats had engaged in "treason", describing the video as "highly unsuitable", stating: "This represents very dangerous, you have prominent officials of the legislature advising troops to disobey orders, I think that represents unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Conservative representative also reportedly informed media outlets that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the crime of sedition" but that "legal experts have to examine the terminology and decide all that."

White House Statement

During a White House press conference on that day, when asked by a reporter, "Would the president want to kill congressional representatives?", the executive branch representative replied: "No."

"We should understand about what the former president is reacting to," the spokesperson stated. "There are current representatives of the federal government who conspired to orchestrate a recorded statement to personnel of the US military, to serving soldiers encouraging them to ignore the commander in chief's lawful orders."

She stated: "The sanctity of our defense system rests on the chain of command, and if that system is compromised, it can cause people getting killed, it can result in disorder, and that's what these congressional representatives ... are basically supporting."
