Adult Swim's Premier Fresh Series of 2025 Gets a Significant Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
Last October, the late-night programming block saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the channel launched a brand-new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was gentle and comforting, in the spirit of a cartoon version of a serene talk show. During a period often defined by dark humor, this show's wholesomeness struck a chord and turned it into a surprise hit.
A Two-Season Greenlight
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose primary trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four key characters.
"I’m so grateful to the viewers of the show who gave *Haha, You Clowns* a chance and spread the word," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for a little longer."
Network Praise
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who described the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He thanked the fans who embraced the show and supported its distinctly quirky appeal.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and expanded its audience week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "In the words: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Wholesome Alternative
Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was described as "a comforting antidote" to other adult animated fare. Viewers found something deeply soothing about following this lovable family go about their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its current sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“There's this level of irony that we keep returning to,” noted Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.”
Future Seasons
With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well be part of that very evolution. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences a little more time to experience the gentle humor of the unique Campbell clan.
The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. The entire series is available for streaming on HBO Max.
